SINCE the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949, the Chinese people have had their sense of gain, happiness, and security continue to rise. They have never enjoyed such a broad range of human rights as they do today. China, for many years, has been elected a member of the UN Human Rights Council with an overwhelming majority of votes, fully demonstrating the international community’s endorsement of China’s human rights cause.

ON June 25, 1945 the Charter of the United Nations was adopted at the United Nations Conference on International Organization. It articulated a commitment to uphold the human rights of citizens, outlined a broad set of principles relating to achieving “higher standards of living,” and expressed the determination to “employ international machinery for the promotion of the economic and social advancement of all peoples.” However in a time when the world had not quite recovered from the ravages of a world war, the prospect of a “good life” seemed like something far off in the distance for mankind.

ON March 15, 2019, the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) adopted the report for China’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR) in Geneva. At the meeting, representatives of more than 120 countries spoke in approval of the human rights situation in China, and thought highly of the remarkable achievements the country has made on the human rights front. They agreed that its progress in poverty reduction and protection of citizens’ economic, social, and cultural rights is of great significance, and is an important contribution to the common development of the world.

China's achievements over the past 70 years belong to the world and mankind, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said here Thursday.

A number of daily actions such as taking the subway, paying utility bills online or simply walking will earn users "green energy" points, and once they reach a certain amount, a real tree will be planted.

The blistering pace of expansion by China's economy in the past decades has impressed the world as "China speed." Now the term is taking on new meaning as the country enters a new development phase.
