On December 3, under the theme “Deepening Partnership for Innovative Development,” the BRICS Seminar on Governance 2020 was held in Beijing.
Gao Anming, vice president and editor-in-chief of China International Publishing Group (CIPG) served as the moderator for the session of thematic speeches, during which seven speakers from the five BRICS countries shared their ideas via video link.
Du Zhanyuan, president of CIPG, noted during his speech that at this special historical moment when the global economy is trapped in deep recession, and progress in poverty reduction and other sustainable development goals is significantly affected by the pandemic, the BRICS countries need to work hard on innovation to overcome the challenges of transforming and upgrading global governance in the post-pandemic era.
Du gave four suggestions regarding governance in the post-pandemic era. First, innovation of ideas should go first in order to push forward the reform of the global governance system. Second, the zero-sum game should be abandoned and more focus should be placed on the major issues of human common concerns, such as the eco-environmental protection, climate change, and biosecurity. Third, all countries, including the BRICS members, should explore new mechanisms through innovation. Four, all countries should foster new drivers of growth through innovation.
