The 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was celebrated with the first UAE-China Think Tank Forum in Beijing on August 29-30.
Hosted by the UAE Embassy in China, the forum, themed "Together to build a shared, sustainable and ambitious future,” brought together representatives from universities, government departments, research and financial institutions, and the private sector of both countries to discuss how to enhance cooperation and partnership.
UAE-China relations, under the leadership of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Chinese President Xi Jinping, are witnessing remarkable progress across economic, trade, cultural, political, and diplomatic spheres, said Hussain bin Ibrahim Al Hammadi, the UAE Ambassador to China.
"This forum represents an opportunity to enhance cooperation in areas of mutual interest, such as trade, education, and culture. It reflects the depth and strength of our collaborative relationship and our shared commitment to building a more sustainable and prosperous future," he said.
The UAE-China Think Tank Forum, held to commemorate the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and the UAE, discusses how to enhance cooperation and partnership between the two nations.
The forum aimed to strengthen cooperation among academic and research circles in areas of mutual interest, such as economic and trade exchange, scientific research, culture, and education. It was also a platform for collaboration and dialogue between think tanks in the UAE and China, exploring opportunities for joint academic projects.
Scientific and research cooperation is a focus of both nations. “We are committed to providing all means to develop collaboration in these promising fields, benefiting both the Emirati and Chinese people,” the ambassador said. “Through cooperation in scientific and intellectual research and joint projects, we contribute together to developing solutions to global challenges, whether in advanced technology, renewable energy, or other fields."
One of the sessions discussed is about enhancing regional and global peace through multilateralism, while another focused on technology, the new industrial revolution, education, culture, and tourism.
China-UAE relations have rapidly evolved to reach the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership, announced in July 2018 during President Xi’s visit to the UAE.
In May 2024, the UAE president visited China, which resulted in numerous agreements and cooperation memoranda.
