The smart automotive industrial chain is a highlight of the ongoing first China International Supply Chain Expo (CISCE). Over 80 companies in the upstream, midstream and downstream of the supply chain in this field are showcasing their cutting-edge technologies, advanced products and services.
As the largest Chinese battery supplier, Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Ltd. (CATL) is globally known. CATL is showcasing its Qilin battery, said to charge faster while vehicles using the new battery can travel more than 1,000 km on a single charge.
Michael Matthias Olk, business development manager of sales, marketing and innovation at IEE.S.A., a Luxembourg-based company.
Michael Matthias Olk, an exhibitor from Luxembourg, was at the CATL booth to learn more about the company. Olk is the business development manager of sales, marketing and innovation at IEE.S.A., a global manufacturer and supplier of advanced sensor technology for automotives, building management, footwear/sports and healthcare.
“We develop components for battery management optimization together with our customers to make battery packs more reliable, more efficient, and easier to assemble,” he said. That explains his interest in CATL.
The IEE.S.A. has been making innovative sensor solutions for leading auto makers. Olk gives the example of VitaSense, their car seat sensor. If children are locked in the car or have been left there for long due to parents’ negligence, VitaSense senses their presence and triggers a warning. Olk wants to see whether there is any possibility of CATL and IEE cooperating in both the European and Chinese markets.

CATL has made sustained and significantly higher R&D investment and has applied to the Intellectual Property and Legal Services Workstation at the expo for an invention patent and a trademark registration.
According to Long Chuanhong, president of the Patent and Trademark Law Office at the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, intellectual property protection can motivate and drive enterprises in the industrial and supply chains to increase investment in technological innovation, which has a positive effect on the stability of the industrial and supply chains.
Long added that strengthening intellectual property protection is also conducive to creating a market-oriented, law-based business environment. It plays an important role in attracting foreign-funded enterprises, especially those with key core technologies, to invest and develop in China, and thus contributes to the stability and resilience of the global industrial and supply chains.
