The high-level meeting to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the United Nations (UN) was convened on September 21 and October 26. It was unprecedented that 173 heads of state and government attended the meeting via video. At the summit held on September 21, the “Declaration for the Commemoration of the 75th Anniversary of the UN” was adopted, reaffirming its commitment to sustainable development, environmental protection, peace, justice, and gender equality. The declaration emphasizes the importance of multilateralism and international cooperation.

The UN has not only promoted positive international relations through its agenda and its work in the fields of security, development, and human rights, but also established platforms and mechanisms for international cooperation.

Since its participation in the founding of the UN, China has always advocated political independence and territorial integrity of all countries, opposed foreign aggression, and has given moral and material support to other developing countries in their efforts to fight for national independence, sovereignty, and the rights of representation and development.

After China kicked off reform and opening-up, the UN has become a bridge for the country to integrate into the world. Through the UN, the international community has provided assistance to China’s reform and opening-up as well as its economic and social development. UN agencies and organizations such as the UN Development Programme (UNDP), UN Environment Programme (UNEP), and World Food Programme (WFP) have cooperated with China in various areas. Since China has become an important global partner of the UN, strengthening cooperation between China, the UN, and its member nations is a win-win option for all.
