At a recent national meeting in Beijing on work related to public communication and culture, Chinese President Xi Jinping once again attached great value to promoting exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations, and Xi Jinping Thought on Culture was put forward for the first time. 

Earlier this year, at the Communist Party of China in Dialogue with World Political Parties High-Level Meeting on March 15, President Xi had proposed the Global Civilization Initiative (GCI). 

As the future of all countries are closely connected, tolerance, coexistence, exchanges and mutual learning among different civilizations play an irreplaceable role in advancing humanity’s modernization process and making the garden of world civilizations flourish, he pointed out. 

The GCI advocates respect for the diversity of civilizations, the common values of humanity, which are peace, development, equity, justice, democracy and freedom, and international people-to-people exchanges and cooperation. 

This year, China-Europe cultural and people-to-people exchanges and dialogues on civilizations have been booming, enhancing mutual understanding and deepening ties.
