The China Today Xizang Salon, a national-level international communication brand, was launched in Lhasa, Xizang Autonomous Region on June 16. This has offered Xizang a dedicated platform for regular international cultural exchanges.
Li Yafang, deputy editor-in-chief of China International Communications Group (CICG), and Gao Hua, deputy director of the Publicity Department of the CPC Xizang Autonomous Regional Committee, jointly inaugurated the Salon at the Second Xizang International Communication Conference themed "Understanding and Support, Empathy and Connection— Enhancing the Effectiveness of International Communication on Xizang-Related Topics."

The Salon is a landmark project developed by CICG Center for Europe and Africa (China Today). As a key initiative under China’s "Thousands of Sail Going Global" international cultural trade program, jointly established by six central ministries and commissions, the Salon has already been launched in nine cities at home and abroad, including Cairo, Madrid, Macao, and Beijing. The inauguration of the Xizang Salon marks a fresh starting point for Xizang’s international communication, cultural exchanges between China and other countries, and as a vehicle for opening-up and international cooperation.
Xizang has long lacked a permanent high-end platform for international exchanges and dialogues. The Salon will effectively fill this gap. Rooted in local economic and social development practices, important achievements in ethnic unity, and unique plateau ecological and cultural resources, the Salon will present a comprehensive, authentic, and multi-dimensional picture of Xizang’s development in the new era, to audiences across the globe.
Leveraging national resources, the Salon will regularly host foreign-related forums, reporting tours for overseas journalists, and various China-foreign exchange activities covering ecology, science and technology, culture, and other fields. It will also adopt innovate approaches to international communication, report on inspiring stories of Xizang in the new era, and provide a bridge for the international community to overcome misunderstandings about the region.
The operation of this Salon marks a major milestone in building up Xizang’s capacity for international communication. As an important link, it will continuously assist the “roof of the world” to expand channels for opening up, and present Xizang’s new image of stability, peace, rapid development, openness and inclusiveness to the outside world.
