On July 9, an aerial lift truck rose slowly into the air, carrying two technicians wearing thick insulating suits during live-line maintenance operations in Fengxi New City, Xixian New Area of Shaanxi Province. 

Dismantling aging insulators on the power lines and installing new equipment, they toiled in stifling 41°C heat. After completing their job, the technicians removed their insulating suits, revealing work uniforms soaked in sweat. Meanwhile, farther along the 10 kV Lincun Village Line 1 in Fengdong New City, Xixian New Area, line patrol personnel carrying infrared devices and thermometers conducted outdoor inspections for more than two hours under the blazing sun. 

Scenes like this are commonplace across the province during sustained high summer temperatures. To cope with heatwaves, State Grid’s Xixian New Area Power Supply Company implemented a joint duty mechanism during peak power consumption periods, strengthened load monitoring and special patrol maintenance for key grid sections and critical equipment. Meanwhile, the company rolled out emergency response plans tailored to each substation and each power line, and fully reserved emergency supplies. Supported by these systematic arrangements, it guarantees power supply at times of peak demand in summer.  

Since the start of July, a continental warm high-pressure system has formed a heat dome, triggering persistent high-temperature weather across Shaanxi. At 12:47 on July 9, the total power load of the region’s power grid reached 46.21 million kilowatts, setting a new all-time high. On July 10, intense heat lingered across the province, keeping grid power load at a high level. Power loads hit record highs in six regions including Xi’an, Baoji, and Xixian New Area.  

According to forecasts, the daytime maximum peak load of Shaanxi Power Grid will reach 47 million kilowatts this summer, a year-on-year increase of 4.7 percent; the evening maximum peak load will reach 44 million kilowatts, up 2.1 percent year on year. 

A region-wide campaign for guaranteeing summer peak power supply has been fully deployed across Shaanxi. State Grid Shaanxi Electric Power Company has steadily pushed forward 80 key projects to reinforce power networks at all voltage levels and improve the operation of transmission, transformation and distribution equipment.  

People’s livelihood is the top priority of power supply companies. In Xixian New Area, the Qinhan Airport Power Supply Branch of State Grid optimizes exclusive power supply plans for every residential community. A one-on-one targeted service mechanism has been established for critical facilities such as hospitals, water supply stations and elderly care institutions. The Qinhan Airport Power Supply Branch has also revised the scheduling and implementation plan for mobile power generation in residential compounds, rolled out quick emergency response measures, and provided targeted services for local residents. 

As summer temperatures soar, power guarantee services extend to every corner of Shaanxi Province. The State Grid Shaanxi Electric Power Company conducts comprehensive inspections on power facilities serving hospitals, water plants, schools, elderly care institutions, and other key localities, strengthening monitoring and support for major customers and essential livelihood facilities. In addition, the company has improved the accuracy of power load forecasting, conducts thorough inventory of emergency response resources, and organizes special emergency drills to enhance its emergency response capacity.  

Through scientific dispatching and demand response measures, Shaanxi Power Grid has maintained an overall balance in operation this summer, characterized by growth in both electricity demand and power supply and transmission capacity.
